2018 Unification Cup : LPRC Oilers crown champions with $ 1000 USD prize

LPRC Oilers, has broken an estimated 30 years jinx of winning a silverware domestically after recording a hard fought victory over a youthful Margibi base -Tony FC yesterday 5th June , 2018 at the ATS in Monrovia.

his was LISRC FC 2nd tournament this year to support the re-awakening of  football in the county . As the LFA election has taken center stage of all football activity in the county with many insinuations from presidential candidates camps .

The ‘Oil boy ‘ were behind in the match after the 1st half of the match by Tony FC, 1-0 before going for recess . With very good passing and confident ball possession , Tony FC lead one of  Liberia best defensive team and matured side for quite long in the well attended matched .

Oliers through the tournament well very impressive recording victories over 2nd Division Mighty Barrolle and third division side Junior Professional FC before their big win against host LISCR FC in the semi-finals.

Oilers sent the host team LISCR FC home after a pulsating  5-4 post-match penalties after a 1-1 draw in 90 minutes with  LISCR reduced to 10 men as early as the 1st half in less than 10 min of the match ,after a  Hilton Varney  un-sportmanship behavior .

It was one time wonder man -Junior Barshell that sent the young Tony FC side weeping sorrowfully from a 24 yard shot in into the waiting goal-pole of Tony FC in extra time of 92minutes to send the stadium into an eruption  mode . Substitute Junior Barshall was brought in after several attempt of Oilers into the 18 yard box of Tony FC but nothing seems to be working.

The LISCR Unification Cup ended today Tuesday 5th June , with 1st Division side LPRC Oilers lifting the giant trophy at stake and walking away with the cash prize of $1,000 USD but 2nd place side Tony FC were rewarded with a cash amount of  US$500 and also an MVP player prize going to them .

Both teams booked their ticket to the finals over the weekend after eliminating their respective semi-final opponents in post-match penalties. Tony FC, that have played the highest matches so far in the tournament, eliminated Freeport FC 3-1 in a penalty shoot-out after a goalless 90 minutes.

The Margibi-based club was also very  impressive . Sending a shock to all fans who underrated them ahead of the competition and to seal through the grand finale . Tony FC played a very confident game against all their opponent in the tournament performance from the start of the tournament and knocked out GAC FC, Indian Based All-Star, and Jubilee FC before securing their slot in the semis.

LPRC Oilers’ Varney Dukuly finished as the highest goal scorer with four goals in three games but Tony FC’s captain, Aaron Hallie, who won two Man of the Match awards, was named the most valuable player. Otis Tarnue of Tony FC was named the best coach of the tournament Meanwhile, in the Under-15 category, Cece United Football Academy will go against Sam Johnson Academy in today’s final.

The winner of the senior category will walk away with US$1,000 and a trophy. Second place will pocket US$500 and the winner of the U-15 category will earn US$100. Certificates will be awarded to the tournament’s most valuable player, the highest goal scorer, the best coach, best defender and best midfielder.

In a related development , academy side in the Under-15 category, Cece United Football Academy were  3- 0 losers  to Sam Johnson Academy in the  final .But the winner of the U-15 category too US$100 and certificates  awarded to the tournament’s most valuable player from Cece United player Harmon.
