The 2018 WAFU / FOX Under-20 competition is expected to kick-off this Tuesday 24th April at SKD Sports Complex in Paynesville outside the nation’s capital, Monrovia.
In all 8 youth national teams will be participating in this year’s edition in Liberia. The Wafu U-20 competition is sponsored by FOX.The WAFU /FOX Competition will be the first international competition to be stage in Liberia since the 8 Nations Tournament in 1988.
It can be recalled that the draw took place on Monday, March 26, 2018 with Group -A having the host nation Liberia whilst Senegal heads Group -B, with Sierra Leone and Gambia base on fifa and other continental association rankings .
Meanwhile host nation Liberia will battle Cape Verde on 24th April , at SKD Sports Complex ,source close to Liberiasports has it that the President will take the kick off ,attempt to confirm this has proof fatal at press time . Liberia will battle Guinea Bissua, and Sierra Leone as other group member .Liberia will have to make a serious impression by winning if the tournament will attract local interest to troop the complex to watch the matches .
The opening matches will see Liberia plays host to Cape Verde Island; Senegal comes face to face against Mali.This means Liberia would have to move past Cape Verde Island, Guinea Bissau and Sierra Leone in Group stage.
Cape Verde is ranked 61 while Liberia is position 135 on the Fifa world ranking.The two have play four matches in a back-to-back fixture collecting two draws and two loses each.
Musa Hassan Bility, First Vice President of West African Football Union in a statement earlier before the draw said the competition is staged to pay homage to Africa’s soccer Legend, now President of Liberia, George Weah, as inspiration to young footballers.Liberia Football Association is expected to use the competition to retire Liberia’s most Iconic jersey number 14, wore by Legendary George Weah, during his playing days for the Liberia National Football Team.
A local organizing committee has been named by FA outgoing President Musa Bility , with newly elected LFA Vice President for Operations , Mr. Sekou Konneh ,this was contained in a release from the local FA dated Friday 20th April ,2018 announced a five member Local Organizing Committee-with Honorable Munah Youngblood as Co-Chairman while Madam D. Sheba Browne and Pepci Yeke are members of the LOC with Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Andy Quamie also on the committee as a member and a representative of the Government of Liberia.

Group B- Senegal, Mali, Gambia and Guinea.
