Host Liberia and The Gambia will on Saturday, May 4,2018 face up against each other in the grand final of the 2018 eight Nations WAFU Tournament.
The Gambia on Wednesday defeated Ivory Coast 6-5 in a post-match penalties after a 1-1 draw.Following the match, The Gambia head Coach expressed excitement over their victory of the Tournament favorite Ivory Coast.Coach Gogu at the same time said he was happy that his team has Liberia as his grand final opponents.
In a related development ,on Wednesday,host Liberia pinned Mali 1-0. The Bea Mountain forward and former County Meet top-Scorer Musa Kabbay got the lone goal for the Lone Star on 12minute from former Teammate Edward Testa Ludlum.The goal recorded Musa Kabbay fifth in the Tournament making him the tournament top current goalscorer.
Kabbay got his first goal for Liberia against Guinea-Bissau in a 2-1 victory in favor of the Junior Lone Star.He then netted the Tournament first hat-trick when Liberia thrashed Sierra Leone 5-1.Prior to Wednesday Semifinals, Liberia Chief Patron of Sports President George Weah thanked Wafu for staging it’s Junior Tournament in Liberia.
Meanwhile President Weah at his Foreign Affairs office,has thanked LFA boss Musa Hassan Bility,LFA Vice President for Administration and Wafu local organizing Committee Chairman Sekou Konneh and the playing body for making Liberia proud.
Meanwhile, Ivory Coast and Mali will battle for a third place slot on Friday at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex in Paynesville.
