The SKD Sports Complex will be a hot zone as the eight qualified county team from football and kickball will take the center stage to exhibit their soccer excellence after putting up a good show in the regional qualifiers, to the quarterfinals of 2019/20 National County Sports Meet of Liberia.
One them is Lofa County after two matches all looks well for the northern Liberia team with the hope of landing the trophy this time around. Lofa County football team got the slot after pitching strength against Nimba and Bong counties.
The ‘Wologisi boys’ as they are affectionately called will go to the Samuel Karyon Doe(SKD) Sports Complex, in Monrovia where they will join the big eight of the traditionally charged tournament.
The Lofa has so far collected 4 points from two matches in Group B, host county Lofa defeated Nimba 1-0 on Sunday, then went on to draw against Bong County, in an exciting contest at the Voinjama Sports Stadium on Wednesday, January 8, 2020. It was prolific center-defender Operland Kerkulah , whose fantastic header in the 31st minute to give the ‘Torborgee boys’ a deserving first half win.
However, the Bong County football came from the break and was given a penalty opportunity by FIFA Badge center referee Sylvia Garnett, after Emmanuel Francis was brought down in the dangerous area of Lofa by Dada Williams, with eight minutes into the second section of the match. Goalkeeper Lincoln Gbaindah, toke the spot-kick but hit it against the
angle of the crossbar before Isaac Sumoku could get a save on it to denied Bong an equalizer.
Goalie Isaac Sumoku, was ruled out with a shoulder injury after a hard-tackle against Momo Blamo in the 67th minute of play. Substitute goalie Sando Barry was introduced for Lofa.
Nevertheless, Bong County fought hard and with intense pressure to get an equalizer in the 88th minute through player Emmanuel Francis,to even the score in the dying minutes of the match to end the match with a 1-1 draw after. With the draw, Lofa County football team have reached the last eight of the biggest sporting festival in Liberia.
In other news, in the football category, Nimba County football team will have to go all out to collect the maximum point against Bong County football team on Saturday, 11 January if they will want to come to the finals while a draw will be sufficient to send Bong to the quarterfinals.
