A very charged Lofa crowed were left spellbound as Lofa County team, pipped almighty Nimba County football side 1-0, in their first group match encounter to open the county meet matches for the year 2019/2020. The match of the day between the two top counties was a top fixture in the group. Host county Lofa for the first time in many years got what was considered as a turning point when they took an early lead over the Nimba County football team.

Liberiasportsonline source in Voinjaman explained that despite the deplorable nature of the pitch, the match kicked-off with a strong determination from the home side with an early incursion in the half of their opponent with consistency in their attack.  The Voinjama Sports Stadium was a sight to see for  the opening match of the Group B dubbed the group of death, on 5 January.

It was player Joseph Manto, dexterity with a dribbled through a clustered Nimba defense and strike to give the boy from Lofa to the lead in the 24th minute. Center referee Francis Sannoh, in stamping his authority on the match had no other option after an unsportsman behavior reduced  Lofa to ten-man, two minutes later after right back player, Dejohn Isreal received a red-carded.

Nimba pressed on to no answer but was more frustrated as their striker Nathaniel Tokpah, controversially sent off by the referee 15 minutes to half time, to balance the equation in Voinjama.  Lofa County team defence was well composed and resilient denying the four-time County Meet winner from entering or allowing their attempt on goal count.

Lofa will now prepared to faces rivals Bong County on Wednesday, 8 January, as it stands, Nimba will pray for Lofa to win the contest and hope to defeat Bong on boxing day, January 11 in order to reach the knockout of the tournament.

Lofa County football team will have to avenge a painful defeated they once suffered from Bong County Football side, it can be recalled that Lofa County Football was defeated  by Bong 2-1, in their last meeting in April 2018. While in Kickball, Nimba beat Lofa 3-2.
