As Ministry of Youth and Sports postpones the event to next year credible information gathered by Liberia Sports Online has revealed that the government of Liberia is unable to host the 2019/2020 edition of the National County Sports Meet due to the lack of finance.
The country’s biggest sporting event which is considered as the best unifying tool over the years and a short time job opportunity for many has been pushed to next year. The Country’s Biggest sporting event which was expected to kick-off on December 14, 2019 has been pushed to next year due to the lack of finance to sponsor the event.
A highly placed source ,who identity remains anonymity has revealed that despite Orange Liberia 40 thousand United states dollars sponsorship, the government has not been able to provide its portion of $ 250,000 USD as a budgetary support for the annual sporting festival . Our source asserted that while the fate of the event lies in limbo, it is believed that the competition may kick-off in February of 2020.
If this information is anything to go by then counties undergoing massive preparations in the four disciplines namely football, kickball, basketball and athletics will be frustrated by the latest news from the Liberian government. Meanwhile, this is the first time since the civil war for the tournament to receive such shocks in the eleventh hour especially when counties have gone all out in preparations for the country’s biggest event.With Lofa , Margibi busily shopping for player to beef up their squad .
However, the chief organizer of the event, the Ministry of Youth and sports remains tight-lipped on the latest development despite frantic efforts to verify the information but our investigation continues into the matter.
