Nimba United records 2nd home defeat

Barrack Young Controllers (BYC)  on Sunday kept their title hopes alive after securing a narrow victory over the Nimba United“Mountaineers”  at the North Star Sports pitch in Mount Barclay .

The Liberia Football Association (LFA) first division defending champions ‘Go Blue Boys’ have been struggling to secure victory in their last two league matches, moved to second on the league table with 21 points out of their 11 first phase matches.

A goal from captain  Van-Dave Harmon in the 71st minute was enough to collect all the three points for the visitors after a goalless first half. He  slotted home the goal with a right foot strike after tracking a cross from the left flank that the Mountaineers’ defense did not properly manage.

The win for Coach Cooper Sannah’s side put BYC seven (7) points behind league leaders FC Fassel to conclude the first phase of the league.Earlier in the first 45 minutes, skipper Harmon got a one-on-one chance to put his side in front, but struggled to gain possession of the ball. Coach Sannah’s boys raised the tempo in the late minutes of the first half in search for an opening goal by imposing pressure on their opponents.Striker Randy Dukuly missed an open goal after Captain Harmon’s shot from down the right flank that slipped-off the goalkeeper’s glove.

In a post-match interview, Coach Sannah said the win was important for his side as they continue to defend their title.

The Mountaineers in the first half also tried to find the back of the net with forward Stanley Whitfield creating chances from the left wing, but could not get the needed result.The defeat for the home side was their second on home ground after FC Fassel broke their unbeaten home record with a 2-1 victory.

The result will now see Nimba United move to 7th place on the league table with 15 points out of 11 matches after securing four (4) wins and three (3) draws in the first phase.
