Monrovia: Despite the controversy surrounding the election of officers for the Liberia Basketball Association, with lingering leadership crisis and deepening stand of the Rufus Anderson lead administration, the quest to induct the new leadership has come to past.
News reaching Liberiasports Online can be confirmed that the new leadership of the Liberia Basketball Association(LBA) has been inducted. The hastily arranged program was held at the Sports Commission on Broad Street on Tuesday, December 31, 2019.
The induction of Abraham Samukai as president brings an end to the regime of allegations of corruption, lack of administrative professionalism and couple with widespread issues of sports administration by Rufus Anderson who had two terms tenure with many rigmaroles.
Officials inducted included: James Emmanuel Porter Vice President for Administration, Edwin Fahnbulleh Vice President for Operation, Sampson Bernard Treasurer, Comfort Wilson Financial Secretary, and Hannah Harris Chaplain.
The relatively short event was not attended by outgoing president Rufus Anderson and the rest of his officials, and as such there was no official turnover. Present at the event was Youth and Sports Minister Zoegar Wilson, who also administered the oak of office challenged the new Leadership to transform the sport.
Minister Wilson recounted how the basketball has for too long been lagging behind, noting the sport has the potential to empower young people and as well unite people. He added that basketball should be taken back to the schools and pledged the Ministry’s support to the new administration lead by Mr. Samukai.
In a short remark after induction new elected president, Abraham Samukai made it known that he will not audit the past administration and went on to extend an olive branch to them. The announcement shocked many basketball stakeholders and pundits, as the Anderson administration was repeatedly accused of corruption by the current team of leaders.
