Host BYC Football ,won the coveted trophy at stake in the 2nd edition of the 2019 BYC’ Blue Cup tournament . This event which saw many football fan trooped to the Blue field Stadium in PHP can be rated a successful .
The ‘Go Blue’ Boys beat Watanga Football Club 3-0 at the end of full time, to lift the Blue Cup .This tournament has become a landmark preseason tournament and running in its second years since its first edition in 2018. BYC also took away their winners’ trophy and a cash prize of US$500.
A brace from former LISCR FC player Trokon Myers, 2018 season’s highest goal scorer of the LFA national league and a goal from Kertu Jebo ended the dream of Watanga Football Club from winning the 2019 Blue Cup. Barrack Young Controllers reached the final of the competition from 6-1 thrashing of Muscat Football Club while Watanga secured a place in the final after a 2-0 win over the feeder team of Barrack Young Controllers, BYC II.
BYC had the highest ball possessions in both half of the match. Returnee of India players exodus Kertu Jebo started the damage with a goal in the first minute to give the hosts the lead. Kertu Jebor, was named the tournament’s most valuable player and the highest goal scorer with three goals in two games.
Trokon Myers added BYC’s second in the 22nd minute to make life difficult for Watanga, which failed to score a single goal in the first half. Myers got his second of the match in the second half to seal the win for BYC
The game was highly anticipated as Watanga featured high profile players. They included Isaac Pupo from the Swedish top league, the Malaysian Super League, and the Indonesian Super League. Alvin Dixon, who won the 2015 Lao Premier League with Lao Toyota was also on Watanga’s squad, in addition to Melvin George, formerly of Hanthawaddy United Football Club in the Myanmar National League.
