contradiction in the LFA statutes -contributed considerably to problems of electoral process -FIFA Report Reveals

Football World Body FIFA has finally had a say in the disputed LFA Presidential election with a mandate to the Liberia Football Association to take Chronological steps to settle the impasse that has kept Liberian football hostage.

FIFA in a communication to the Secretary-General of the LFA Tuesday,  released findings into their recent assessment mission to Liberia where a three-man delegation probe into the disputed LFA Presidential election.The Liberia Football Association, was ordered by FIFA  to undertake what it calls “Chronological steps” to harmonize the eligibility criteria for the position of President in the LFA Statutes so as to avoid any further contradiction and confusion.

FIFA said in its communication “We take note that there is a contradiction in the LFA statutes regarding the eligibility criteria for the position of president. Art. 45 par. 4 and art. 58 par. 1 of the LFA statutes stipulates different eligibility criteria”.FIFA also said the LFA should submit the new drafts revised statutes to Zurich for review and approval.

The World body of football also wants an extraordinary Congress be held to amend and ratify a new L.F.A. statutes and convene a new election for the position of president whereby the LFA Congress shall elect a president for the remainder of the Executives Committee’s mandate which started on 14 April 2018.

” With regard to the election of a new LFA president, we take note that there is a contradiction in the LFA statutes regarding the eligibility criteria for the position of president. Art. 45 par‚ 4 and art. 58 par. 1 of the LFA statutes stipulate different eligibility criteria.”

While we understand that the LFA executive committee sought to clarify these contradictions in the run-up to the 14 April 2018 elective congress, these seem t0 have contributed considerably to the problems of the electoral process ultimately Ieading to its interruption through the court injunction .As a consequence of the above, the LFA shall undertake the following chronological steps:
– Harmonize the eligibility criteria for the position of president in the LFA statutes so as to avoid any further contradiction and confusion;
– Submit the draft revised LFA statutes to FIFA for review and approval; – Convene an extraordinary congress to amend and ratify the LFA statutes;
– Convene new elections for the position of president whereby the LFA congress shall elect a president for the remainder of the executive committee’s mandate which started on 14 April 2018 .

It also wants the George Solo’s issue with the elections committee address accordingly as FIFA could take further measures against Liberia if any “unilateral action” is imposed against the LFA.

It concludes that ” kindly ask you to submit a first draft of the revised LFA statutes to FlFA by no Iater than Monday, 18 June 2018, ”
