Current Deputy Minister for Sports ,Andy Quamie has been elected as a member of the Confederation of African Football (Caf) Judiciary Board for four years.
This will be one of his major career move in football administration , Mr.Quamie was in 2012 appointed as Confederation of African Football (CAF) match commissioner and a year later FIFA appointed him to serve as match commissioner. With a track record in sports administration ,he comes to the job with a good understanding of CAF and FIFA issues .
The Watanga FC Senior Vice-President will serve the Appeal Board of Caf until 2022.Andy, after his preferment posted on his Twitter page, saying: “I am grateful to President Ahmad, the Executive Committee and the General Assembly for electing me to serve on the Caf Judiciary Board for four years.” The Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Match Commissioner was elected at the just concluded 40th CAF Ordinary General Assembly held in Casablanca, Morocco on February 2, 2018.
He was elected alongside Nigeria’s Mr A.U Mustapha, SAN, as the new President of the CAF Appeals Board and Thaddeus Sory of Ghana as their Vice-President. Others that were elected on the Caf Appeal Board as members included; Saer Seck of Senegal, Chitbahal Bhai Mustapha of Mauritius, Ali Mohamed Ahmed of Somalia, Fernando Rui Da Costa of Angola, Adjib Koullamallah of Chad and Ould Zmiri Bachir of Algeria.
The Caf Appeal Board shall consist of one (1) president, one (1) vice-president and the number of members deemed necessary. The remit of this body shall be governed by CAF Disciplinary Code, CAF Statutes and CAF Regulations. According to ARTICLE 21 of Caf Status: “The Board shall be authorized to statute on any appeals lodged against decisions of the Disciplinary Board or any other committee, unless the CAF regulations declare such decision to be final or referable to another body.
“The president of the Board may take the following decisions, after consulting With two (2) other members: To rule on an appeal lodged against a decision of the Disciplinary Board concerning the extension of a sanction imposed by national associations in the framework of their local activities, to continental level; Settle disputes arising from challenges to members of the Appeal Board.” “Decisions of the Appeal Board shall be final and binding on all parties concerned. This provision is subject to appeals lodged with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). No plea for clemency shall be accepted once the Appeal Board has pronounced its verdict.
Since his appointment as FIFA/CAF match commissioner, Mr. G Andy Quamie has demonstrated high level of commitment and professionalism in handling tough football assignments around the world.
The WATANGA FC Senior Vice-President helped to officiate more than 100 FIFA/ CAF international matches in Africa and he was part of the FIFA delegation at the just ended 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
