A 5-day tournament under the auspices of BYC Football ,one of Liberia’s leading sports institution at the club’s mini-sports pitch in central Monrovia this week.

According to the club is an efforts to keep players engaged until the kickoff the Liberia Football Association national league that is yet to be announced.The tournament will be played in the knockout format with the semi-finals scheduled for Thursday.

Ahead of LISCR FC match against Samira FC tomorrow, head coach Tapha Manneh has said his target is to win the pre-season trophy. According to LISCR FC official website, the Gambian tactician is not taking the tournament lightly as the tournament is important as any trophy. “I think it’s important for us to win the tournament because it cannot be called a pre-season tournament to us. It’s a trophy like any other and we are going with the objective of winning,” Coach Tapha told LISCR FC media.

Participating teams include BYC-I, LISCR FC, Mighty Barrolle, and Monrovia Club Brewers all of the first division, second division clubs BYC-II, and Bea Mountain and third division clubs Muscat FC and Samaria FC. The two winners from matchday 1 will face each other for a slot in the last four and will be followed by the two winners of match day 2 that will also compete for a semi-finals slot.

According to the fixtures, Monrovia Club Breweries will face Bea Mountain in the opening match and will be followed by BYC-I vs. Muscat FC in today’s second encounter.

May 9th will see the second tier side BYC-II goes face-to-face with Mighty Barrolle in the first match, while national champions LISCR FC will try to stamp their authority against Samira FC in the second encounter.

An amount of L$25,000 was given to each team for preparation while the winner of the tournament will clinch a cash prize of US$1,000 and a trophy. Runners-up will be given US$500. The highest goal scorer of the tournament will be given a Golden Boot.
