Liberian football was dealt with a major blow when the two traditional clubs were relegated from the nation’s top league, owing to varying issues of financial and also poor performance in the league. With the gap that was created, it was a major disappointment to football lovers.
One of the club continue to struggle to make a return, in a new turn of event to either save or resurrect the club, The Board of Directors of the Invincible Eleven Majestic Sports Association has with immediate effect dissolved the interim leadership of the association.
The Board in a communication has terminated the interim leadership team lead by former IE goalkeeper Raymond Moulton due to the poor state of the club. The Board disclosed that Raymond Moulton and his leadership team have failed to make a report to it since taken charge of the Yellow Boys almost two years now.
It can be recalled that the clubs was relegated to the country’s third tier after failing to pay a fine of US$909.The Liberia Football Association (LFA) imposed the sanction after the nation’s oldest club did not honor a league match on 6 April due to financial constraints.LFA statutes say fines must be paid before the club’s next match and failure to do so could lead to “appropriate disciplinary actions, including fines, expulsion, and relegation.” IE failure to pay fines imposed on the club by the LFA also contributed to their relegation. They were relegated from the top-flight at the end of the 2016-17 season, alongside another of Liberia’s biggest clubs Mighty Barolle, who also have 13 league titles.
Invincible Eleven (IE), the oldest football club in the country was relegated from the Liberia Football Association 2nd division league to the third division after failing to honor league matches last season. Invincible Eleven, has won 13 Liberian champions times since its foundation in 1943, has been experiencing financial problems.
Former player /goalie Raymond Moulton and his executives including Secretary-General Ronald Kerkula Mends-Cole as well as team manager Fallah Lahai appealed against the LFA’s decision, but they lost the appeal and the club was relegated to the 3rd division. The LFA ruling at the time said IE violated chapter 8, article 10, section 2.0 and 2.1 of the regulations governing the Orange-sponsored league. The IE Board added that it could no longer allow the club to suffer because of poor leadership.
Meanwhile, as third division teams gear up for the start of their season, report says, IE have not registered to participate in any of the 3rd divisions in the country.
But there are reports that some fans of IE have been meeting to ensure that the Yellow boys are back into the national league. The Board of Directors of the Invincible Eleven Majestic Sports Association headed Eugene Shannon is expected to name a new leadership team soon.
