The Liberia Football Association says its 2018 National league will kick off this Saturday 11th August 2018 ,at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium in Monrovia. Two first division games will kick-start the completion, with Watanga welcoming newly promoted Small Town FC in game one.
Monrovia Club Breweries will take on FC Fassell in game two.Ahead of that, the LFA has announced the holding of a workshop for clubs’ General Secretaries, Head Coaches and Medics.
The usual curtain-raiser to the national league, the LFA Super Cup will not take place as the FA has not said anything about the cup.
The LFA in a statement Tuesday said the fixture for the 2018 event will be released subsequently but have not said how many clubs will be participating in the season.
The Liberian Football League will be beginning at a time when other leagues in Africa are warning down.It is not clear if the country will feed teams in the next Caf Confederation Cup and Champions League as Caf had set October/ November as leagues closure across the continent. By November, countries should have submitted their representatives Caf for both the Confederation Cup and the African Champions League.
Meanwhile, one report says there are some clubs that are not fully prepared to compete in the season as the long hullabaloo in the LFA has caused a serious distraction for their preparations.Several clubs have not been able to recruit new players and have also not been able to get their old players committing to playing for them this season.
Almost all of the national league players have not been training as their respective clubs went dormant during the last 11 months of no football action.Another regulation not been spoken about by the LFA is the issue of Clubs licensing which is a requirement set by Caf.
Several of the clubs expected to play in the LFA 2018 National League does not have headquarters in keeping with the clubs licensing requirement.Clubs are yet to make comments on the kickoff to the competition, especially the manner in which it is happening.
