Liberia has settle between 2 very unknown football nations in the world Tahiti and Kuwait in the FIFA Ranking released on Thursday, August 16.This comes as less activities of football in Liberia.
Tahiti is ahead of Liberia in the latest ranking making Liberia’s global ranking in football to be serious and pose alot of challenge to football administrators in Liberia .Liberian FA has been dealt with many internal wrangle spanning from elections issues and Ex-Com members as well FIFA audit issues, many allegations of financial malpractices according to a FIFA report recently .
My research has revealed that a new formula in calculating the ranking ,might have affected Liberia . The formula relies on adding/subtracting points won or lost for a game to/from the previous point totals rather than averaging game points over a given time period as in the previous version of the Ranking.
The changes, of which there are several, include the fact that inactive teams like Liberia now preserve no point totals, with no devaluation of older games.Points are dropped, however, from losing or drawing against weaker opposition, with the only exception to this rule matches in knockout rounds of major competitions such as the FIFA World Cup.
Liberia moved fall from 115 position to 158th in on the global rankings .The local league in Liberia has been dead since August 2017 . Aside from recent U-20 WAFU tournament that was hosted and place 2nd after a painful defeat from Gambia .Liberia National team has also been on virtual no show , before the national team
coach Jame Debbah was booted out of of the position . With a new coach in person of Thomas Kojo , many pundit sees a huge gap for him to fill in the restoration process of Liberia football as well as a recent drawn match with Sierra Leone .
Liberia’s performance may be as a result of the new ranking formula introduced by the sport’s world-governing body at its meeting in June. The ranking is the first after the 2018 FIFA World Cup and the champions, France, are deservedly ranked Number One.They moved six places up to replace Germany, who drop a whopping 14 places to 15th 2018 World Cup finalists Croatia have also equaled their best performance in the ranking, moving 16 places up to 4th.
Tunisia remained the best-ranked side in Africa with Senegal in second.Surprisingly, DR Congo are third while Ghana and Morocco complete the continent’s Top 5.
