Liberia has won the maiden edition of the Mano River Union (MRU) Football for Peace Tournament held in the Sierra Leonean towns of Kenema and Bo respectively.
The Lone Star achieved the feast Wednesday following a fascination 2-0 win over Sierra Leone, thanks to two second half goals from Alloy Brown. The Nimba Kwado striker turned in and took a wonderful shot to give Liberia the lead after receiving a pass from substitute Frederick Dennis before putting the game to bed with another intriguing strike.
The Lone Star Coach Peter Butler down-played the striker goal scoring ability in the County Meet and the local league prior to the trip to Saudi Arabia, noting County Meet football was one million miles away from international football.
But it was the Kwado’s marksman who got the dividend of the English Coach criticism with two goals in three matches for the Lone Star.
Brown has scored ( 9 ) nine goals for Sanniquellie-based Kwado in the ongoing LFA First Division league, having earlier won the golden boots in the 2020-2021 National County Sports meet with six goals.On Monday, Liberia also outclassed Sierra Leone 3-1 in the senior female category of the tournament.Goals from World Girls’ Hawa Kpan,
Angeline Kieh of Earth Angels and Senior Professional’s Miata Morris ensured a comfortable win for Robert Lartey and his team.Coach Ansu Keita U-15 team was held to a 1-1 draw on Saturday.The tournament other participants, Guinea and Ivory Coast withdrew citing logistical and technical constraints.
