The sports ministry has suspended, with immediate effect, Bryant McGill, chairman of the technical committee and director of programs for a month without pay. The decision to suspend the official of the ministry was part of the recommendation contained in the finding of the committee setup to investigate as well as look into the complain of Nimba County football team .
The protest committee, recommended his suspension, It can be recalled that Saturday 5th January, 2019, in the other quarterfinals match, Margibi County defeated Nimba County 5-4 in post-match penalties after both teams failed to get a curtain raiser during the full 90 minutes. This left many irate fans leaving the complex with mixed feeling.
Meanwhile the local football house , has been informed by the Ministry of Youth and Sports about the decision of suspending Mr. McGill . Our inside source has revealed that ,Bryant misled the center referee and match officials into direct penalty kicks instead of extra 30 minutes in keeping with the rules. Which is contrary to the rules and regulations of the competition .
Attempts to reach ,Mr. McGill , on the issue of his suspension did not materialize , as his phone was switch off. We hope to get his reaction to the suspension and his intention to serve his suspension .
Also Minister for Youth and Sports ,Hon. Zeogar Wilson has honored the suspension of Bryant from all related activities but he will be allowed to watch the remainder of the tournament as a free citizen.
This is not the first case against Mr. McGill as a staff of the ministry he was involve with a tussle ,in May 2016 with former assistant minister Gray and Deputy minister Yonton . Many fans ,Liberiasportsonline , spoke to after the decision ,expressed their the punish is in the right direction and it will help to curb the integrity of the game and also ensure that the game quality will improve and increase the level of trust the fans has loss in referring and match officials on the local scene .
