New Kru Town base, evergreen Monrovia Club Breweries team, made another successful attempt to stay at the top of the Liberia FA league, Monrovia Club Breweries have opened a six-point lead at the top of the 1st Division national league sponsored by Orange. The club defeated Nimba United 2-1 at the Nancy Doe Stadium in Kakata, Margibi County on during the week .
Player Prince Kennedy and Robert Taylor’s goals were enough to keep Breweries wins to five wins in a row in the eighth and 80th minutes respectively. For Nimba United, it was layer Prince Nanakpalleh who got United’s goal in the 78th minute.
In another development, United are second ahead of Bea Mountain, LPRC Oilers, Mighty Barrolle and LISCR FC, who are leveled on nine points respectively. Bea, who were reduced to 10 men when Lassana Sesay was sent-off in the 12th minute, held on to draw 0-0 with LISCR at the Doris William sports pitch in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County.
Defending champions Oilers held Small Town to a 1-1 draw at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium in game one. A watch which was attended by their Chief executive officer Nyonblee Karngar-Lawrence of Small Town FC, the Logan Town base team had in the VIP stand to cheer Small Town, owned by her deceased husband Adolph Akwe Lawrence, for the first time. Nyonblee, a Grand Bassa County Senator, presented US$200 to the team for the positive result following a 7-1 defeat to Bea on 2 February.
