Nimba United Head Coach Christopher Wreh suspended from national League

The Liberia Football Association has placed a one year suspension on two players of Nimba United and a six month suspension on the Head Coach of the club for violating of the rules and regulations governing the LFA 2018 National League.

According to the release from the LFA, Nimba United Head Coach Christopher Wreh has also been suspended for six months for insulting match officials after he was given the marching. player Michael Fahnbulleh  physically attached and assaulted a player of LPRC Oilers after he was shown a red card for violent conduct doing the Nimba United versus LRC Oilers league match played at the North Star Stadium in Mount Barclay on September 26, 2018.

The name Christopher Wleh is no stranger to Liberian football arena locally and internationally, Christopher Wreh is a retired Liberian international footballer who played as a striker. He was a member of the Arsenal side which won the Premier League and FA Cup double during the 1997–98 season . Wreh played domestically for Invincible Eleven,before signing for French Division 1 club AS Monaco as a youth. A centre forward, Wreh played for Monaco as a substitute in the 1993–94 UEFA Champions League semifinal. He had a spell on loan at Guingamp, finishing the season as the team’s top scorer and playing in the 1997
Coupe de France Final, which they lost on penalties to Nice.

Wreh made his debut for Liberia in 1995, and went on to win 36 caps for his country, scoring 11 goals. Wreh signed for Arsenal in the summer of 1997 for £300,000,linking up with his former manager at Monaco,  Arsène Wenger.Although fourth choice behind Ian Wright, Dennis Bergkamp and Nicolas Anelka, Wreh still played an important part in the Gunners’ Double-winning 1997–98 season. Wreh scored in 1–0 Premier League  wins against Wimbledon and Bolton Wanderers, and netted the only goal of the Gunners’ FA Cup semi-final win  over Wolverhampton Wanderers. Wreh started in the 1998 FA Cup Final, and although he did not score,  Arsenal beat Newcastle United 2–0. Despite scoring in the 1998 FA Charity Shield against Manchester United,Wreh’s form dipped and after the arrival of Thierry Henry and Davor Šuker at the club in 1999 he was squeezed out altogether.He had brief loan  spells with Birmingham City, for whom he scored once, against Grimsby Town,AEK Athens and Den Bosch,  but none of these were made permanent.He left Arsenal in 2000, having scored 5 times in 46 appearances.

Meanwhile Section1.5a states that any player or club official who shall assault a match official or LFA official before, during and after the match shall face the following penalties: Section1.5 states any club official who shall insult/abuse or castigate a match official or LFA Official before, during and after a match shall be suspended for six(6)months for the first offence, one(1)year for the second offence and two(2)years for the third offence and banned from all LFA activities for any further offence.

Also action against player Darlington Failey for in the same match for  attacking and using abusive language on the match Referee Christopher Nylander after he was shown a red card for violent conduct after immediately after the match. “These actions as exhibited by the coach and players of Nimba United are in violation of the LFA 2018 national League Rules and Regulations; Chapter 20,Article 24, section 1.5a and section 1.5”, the LFA release
stated.

Meanwhile attempts to reach the team PRO section to react to this action of the Liberia FA did not materialize at the time of press. Both players Fahnbulleh and Failey of Nimba united have been suspended with immediate effect for one year from all football activities.
