Liberia chief Patron of sports, George Manneh Weah has recommend the inclusion of first division players in the National County Sports Meet. The Liberian leader said including experienced players in the tournament will serve as inspiration for young promising players in the tournament.
He said with the presence of first division players in the annual sports event, it will help recruit active players for the Liberian National team, the Lone Star. He, however, urged the Ministry of Youth and Sports to keep the purpose of the tournament, which is to unite Liberians and scout potential talents for the various national teams.“The County Meet is meant to recruit, we can use the county meet to create the country national team from the very county meet, we cannot do that when the is no competition in the tournament,” Chief Patron of Sports Weah said.
“The national team did not benefit from the national county meet, we need to do our best to include bigger players in the process to inspire the younger players to perform well.”
He praised the Minister of Youth and Sports for organizing the first successful county meet peacefully under his regime.“If I had the world to give you I would have given you it for having a successful county meet,” the president added.
The Liberian leader noted that it is necessary for the budget of the Sports Ministry be better to improve the next upcoming tournament so that the national team can benefit by the recruitment of players.“I promise that the next county meet will be a better one other than this, the county meet is meant to recruit for the national team and the budget of the ministry needs to be better in order to host a better tournament,” he said.
He spoke at his Jamaica Resort in Paynesville during a program held in honor of organizers of the county meet.Speaking earlier, Youths and Sports Minister Zogar Wilson said he was proud to see the nation celebrate a successful county Meet.“We are here to wine and dine with the president, he is very much appreciative with the efforts and time put in organizing the tournament,”Wilson said.
