Referee Josephus S. Torjilar granted clemency at LFA Congress

“The leadership of the Liberia Football Referee Association wishes to express thanks and appreciation to you for your decision during your 24th ordinary congress to grant clemency or to pardon our referee/colleague Mr. Josephus S. Torjilar,” a letter captured on the Liberia Football Referee Association social media page (facebook) dated 12 June , 2020 and signed by the Association’s general secretary contained.

It can recalled that the Liberian FA handed a two-year ban to referee Torjilar for receiving a bribe to influence a game . The FA banned Josephus Torjilar from refereeing for two years after the official was found guilty of dishonesty for personal gain.

The investigation was carried out by the FA’s Grievance and Disciplinary Committee, and Integrity and Compliance Officer Morris Nahndi Barsi Giah. The case was wrapped up after Torjilar admitted to have received US$100 following a second-tier relegation play-off match that saw PAGS beat Srimex 2-0. “The committee found referee Torjilar’s admittance a violation of Chapter 13, Section 2.3 of the rules governing the 2019 Orange-sponsored LFA National League,” the LFA noted.

Furthermore, Torjilar was also culpable of violating Chapter 13, Section 2.6 which states: “Match officials are not allowed to accept gifts of any kind from members of clubs, etc. (cash or kind) before, during and after a match. Match official(s) caught will be immediately suspended.” The groups also expressed their gratefulness and gratitude for congress’ decision and assured stakeholders of their commitment and cooperation in ensuring a high level of credibility and professionalism in the running of football.

The letter concludes with a message to the Liberian FA for the passage of the 2020/2021 budget in which the interest and well-being and functioning of our referees/institution is being highly considered as well as the approved increment of match indemnities for referees.

His ban, was supposed to run till 2021.
