A provisional squad of 24 players has been called-up by head coach Robert Lartey and his technical staff to begin preparations for the maiden edition of the West African Football Union (Wafu Zone A) women’s Nations Cup finals in Sierra Leone.
The players were put through several drills at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium (ATS) on Monday.
Strikers Angeline Kieh of Earth Angels, Pauline Agbotsu of Determine Girls and Agatha Nimene of Blanco FC are in a provisional squad, which will be cut down before the team travels to Freetown. Liberia has been drawn against Mali, the Gambia and Guinea Bissau in Group B.Hosts Sierra Leone are in Group A along with Cape Verde, Senegal, and Guinea.
Group A will be based in Bo and Group B will be based in Makeni. The draw took place on 6 February in Freetown and the tournament will run from 25 February to 7 March. Liberia will return to familiar territories where it played six female international friendlies last year.
In Bo, Liberia under-20 lost 2-0 to Sierra Leone under-20 on 18 December; beat Mogbewma Queens 1-0 on 20 December and dumped Kahunla Queens 5-0 on 22 December.In Makeni, Liberia senior team drew 2-2 with Sierra Leone on 18 December; dragged Rising Queens 8-0 on 20 December and dumped Mahmoud FC 5-1 on 22 December.
