The Liberia Football Association (LFA) will begin two days of security training for newly recruited stewards at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium on Friday. It will bring together about 40 participants, including two security representatives from Blue Field, Ganta, North Star, Kakata and Buchanan from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM daily.
The workshop, which is being organized by LFA security and fair play committee, is to brainstorm the challenges, strategies and best international practices for the 2019 National League and related football events. Will this training pegged them to the level of Football Stewarding Qualification as design and presented in most professional league in Europe ?
It will cover topics such as the roles and responsibilities of stewards; service and communication orientation; conflict prevention and management; emergency first aid, basic fire prevention and firefighting; crowd dynamics and management; health and public safety. The training will be facilitated by the Armed Forces of Liberia, Liberia National Police, Liberia National Red Cross Society and Liberia National Fire Service (LNFS).
Our research has also revealed that ,The Football Stewarding Qualification ( FSQ ) is a qualification that all stewards at a designated football ground must gain while they are working. The question is will this local training effectively empower them to handle the constant invasion of pitch by irate fans at the ATS ,a usual habit of local football fans . This is to ensure the safety of spectators who come to a football game and to avoid repeats of incidents like Hillsbourgh and the Bradford Fir .
Meanwhile, the LNFS will carry out a safety inspection exercise at the ATS on Saturday, tomorrow. The ATS, when qualified, will be issued a safety declaration certificate for US$25.
